Scholarship amounts are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, academic success, income, and tuition cost.

If a student receives a scholarship based on a perceived 4-year university cost, and the student opts to attend community college or trade school, the award amount may be adjusted accordingly.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office with questions or concerns.

FAQ's

Do I have to have a Hughes Center connection to apply?

The Hughes Memorial Foundation is not associated with the Hughes Center located on Route 41 in Pittsylvania County. Children who are a direct descendant of alumni of Hughes Memorial Home when it operated as an orphanage may receive additional consideration during the scholarship process.

How are award amounts determined?

Award amounts are based in part on academic excellence, demonstrated financial need, and tuition cost. If you received an award based on the tuition of a 4-year university, but decide to attend community college/trade school, your award may be adjusted accordingly.

Is this award renewable?

Yes. Returning students do not have to fill out another application. Please see the Reapplication Information for more guidelines.
