2011 SPRING SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS AWARDED
Hughes Memorial Home Foundation recently awarded $102,000 in scholarships to area college students and upcoming graduates. Among the graduates from the Danville/Pittsylvania County area receiving scholarships were Michelle Johns, Sarah Brinkley, James Wade, Hannah Gibson, Lynsey Palmer, Benjamin Tucker, Elizabeth Tucker, Candace Blair, Ashlee Clark, Melanie Fowler, Michelle Fowler, Amanda Johns, Lauren Shields, Dana Collie, Kayce Elliott, Zachary Gibson, Megan Adams, Chris Alderson, Victoria Cox, Brandon Floyd, Isaac Gibson, Christine Gore, Paul Porter, Nathan Unger and Jeffrey Walker.
Students receiving scholarships from Martinsville and surrounding area were Brittany Bowers, Dina Couter, Mackenzie Coulson, Linnie Daniel, Chelsea Dollarhite, Connor Jones, Kayla Jones, Nathan Knopp, Nile Knopp, Elizabeth Marshall, Johnathan Morton, Stephanie Stanley, and Cody Wright.
The Foundation also awarded $41,489.00 in Grants to the following organizations: Community Blessing Center $10,000, Danville Science Center $10,000, Goodwill Industries of Danville $6,489, Salvation Army $15,000. The Danville YMCA received a $250,000 grant toward the child care center in the new facility which will be named the Hughes Memorial Foundation Child Care Center.
